| Q. |
What is post-frame
construction? |
| A. |
Modern post-frame
construction is the primary structural frame that typically
consists of a clear span truss supported by two posts or columns.
This frame is supported by interlocking wood purlins, girts
and sheathing. Loads are transferred to the ground through
posts set in the ground or surface-mounted to a concrete foundation.
The term pre-engineered post-frame is the term used in place
of the old term “pole-barn”. |
|
|
| |
|
| Q. |
Is post-frame construction
cheaper? |
| A. |
Post-frame is often a more
efficient and faster alternative to other forms of construction. |
|
|
| |
|
| Q. |
May I design my own
building? |
| A. |
Yes, All R. C. Barns buildings
are designed with the customer’s input. Our sales staff
will work with you to provide construction ideas along with
your design ideas. |
|
|
| |
|
| Q. |
What is the lead-time
for a building; from the time I sign the contract until it
is completed? |
| A. |
Usually it is five to seven
weeks, but this time frame is directly relative to the time
of year and type of building. In peak construction season,
lead-time can be as much as seven to ten weeks. |
|
|
| |
|
| Q. |
Do you sell nationwide? |
| A. |
No. R. C. Barns Building
Inc. is a small company providing a quality product within
our local region. Our company usually stays with 100-150 mile
radius of Lincoln County, Missouri. |
|
|
| |
|
| Q. |
Does R. C. Barns
sell material-only packages? |
| A. |
No. Post-frame construction
is a learned trade and our crews are trained to correctly
erect the buildings. |
|
|
| |
|
| Q. |
Why do I hear that
R. C. Building Inc.’s purlin system is better? |
| A. |
R. C.’s purlin system
starts with 2” x 4” S.Y.P. This results in a truss/roof
system with more strength and less instability. We use Southern
Yellow Pine, providing superior fastener holding strength
and the flush interlocking design improves truss-bracing,
resistance to wind uplift and overall diaphragm strength. |
|
|
| |
|
| Q. |
R. C. Barns Building
Inc. gave me a higher price than another builder. Why? |
| A. |
At R. C. Barns Building Inc.,
we take pride in the fact that we use the best engineering,
design and manufacturing processes available. This includes
using BOCA 99 building codes. This adds value to your purchase.
When compared to other builder’s, R. C. Barns may be
higher on the front end. The difference is that with R. C.,
you are getting an engineered structure done right the first
time, with integrity and quality built in. |
|
|
| |
|
| Q. |
Is post-frame construction
reliable? |
| A. |
The diaphragm-type building
is proven and tested. Post-frame has been used for over 50
years for agriculture, commercial, industrial and residential
building. |
|
|
| |
|
| Q. |
What colors
can I get? |
| A. |
There are approximately 15
standard colors to choose from. The paint system has a 30-year
manufacturer’s warranty. |
|
|
| |
|
| Q. |
What gauge metal do you use? |
| A. |
29 Gauge, Grade E, PSI yield-minimum
of 80,000. 26 gauge metal is available at an additional cost. |
|
|
| |
|
| Q. |
What type of lumber do you use? |
| A. |
Mostly Southern Yellow Pine, simply because
it has superior fastener holding capacity. With few exceptions,
we also use machine stress rated (MSR) lumber for top and
bottom truss chords. We also use S.P.F on some buildings,
based on design criteria. |
|
|
| |
|
| Q. |
Should I put insulation in my
building? |
| A. |
That depends on its intended use. If
you are going to store machinery and tools, probably not.
If you are going to be working inside the building year-round,
and you want to heat, and/or air-condition the interior, then
definitely. We do insulate a lot of the buildings we build;
however, we do recommend a vapor barrier of some kind in most
buildings. |
|
|
| |
|
| Q. |
Do you use solid posts? |
| A. |
We use solid 6” x 6” posts
sometimes. The rest of the time we use laminated columns.
Laminated columns are 3 boards, two 2 x 6 sandwiched either
side of a 2 x 8. #2 Southern Yellow Pine is used for these.
Laminated columns produce a straighter building. |
|
|
| |
|
| Q. |
How long does it take you to
build a building? |
| A. |
The time it takes to build the basic
shell depends on the size of the building, number of framed
openings, and other interior and exterior customization. |
|
|
| |
|
| Q. |
Do I need a concrete foundation? |
| A. |
No. In fact, with columns set in the
ground, we can build year round. A concrete floor can be added
after the building is finished. |
|
|
| |

|
| Q. |
Does the roof have to be metal
on my building? |
| A. |

seem or any material that can be screwed down to our flush
purlin system. Vinyl siding may also be used in place of the
standard 29 gauge painted steel siding.
